The Midea 12kW is the size most South African family pools need. Rated heating output is 12.5kW under summer conditions and 14.5kW with boost engaged, which suits a 10 x 4 metre pool or anything in the 32,000 to 45,000 litre range where the owner wants the water usable rather than just tolerable.
It is worth noting that this unit is still a single phase machine drawing a maximum of 12A – no board upgrade, no three phase supply, no special breaker. That is a genuine advantage over some competing units at this output.
Running noise steps up to 49dB(A), which is a noticeable jump from the 9kW. If the unit is going anywhere near a bedroom window or a boundary wall, plan on running it in silent mode, where it drops to 40dB(A) at 60 percent capacity. In practice that costs you a little heat-up time and nothing else.
The full inverter compressor modulates output against demand instead of cycling at fixed speed, reaching a coefficient of performance of 12.2 at low load. Once your pool is at temperature the unit spends most of its time trickling in the heat that evaporation takes back out, and that is the condition an inverter is built for.
Boost mode holds full capacity down to 15°C ambient air, matching what a normal-mode heat pump would only deliver at 27°C. That is what turns a three-month swimming season into a six-month one on the highveld.
Control is via the WiFi app or the 86T wired controller – scheduling, a progress percentage toward your target temperature, and energy consumption logged by day, month and year.
